ARTIST

Works of art are not passive reflections of economic, social or political conditions. They actively enable a society, or group within society, to accomplish various goals that could not otherwise be obtained. -Corinne D'Antonio

Art has the ability to visually depict a culture. Art can tell you where a culture has been, where it is, and where it is going. When anthropologists and historians study a specific time period or culture, they turn to artwork to explain what was actually happening in the day to day lives of people. Therefore, when an artist creates work that inspires individuals to think about issues of peace and justice, it also has the ability to propel us to take action and action has the ability to creatively change a culture, from one of violence to peace. Now that is powerful!
